

Dr Ciara Wright PhD talks to Dr Benjamin Brown of the Nutrition Medicine Institute Podcast about her personal experience with Long Covid and related Lyme Disease and how she helps patients in her clinic now she has fully recovered.
Ciara Wright, PhD is Director of Positive Nutrition, Dublin, Ireland and is a Nutritional Therapist and Scientist with a background in diverse fields such as stem cell science, gene therapy, microbiology and immunology. Since recovering from Long Covid and ME/CFS herself, this has deepened her interest in chronic complex illness. She has a PhD in molecular biology from the Institute of Immunology at Maynooth University, experience in diagnostic hospital laboratories and a qualification in Medical Laboratory Sciences, and is an independent researcher and author of several important publications.
In this interview Ciara discuses interventions, diagnostic testing and current research related to the pathology of Long Covid. Ciara describes post-exertional malaise (PEM), from her personal experience, and to try to give a voice to millions of patients who are suffering from this unique hallmark of ME/CFS which is poorly understood. It is of critical importance to spread awareness of PEM to safely work with patients and cause no harm or set backs. Ciara also discusses the complexity of histamine intolerance and the key role of the gut microbiome in improving outcomes in those most sensitive to histamine.
