Immune related infertility

The immune system plays a critical role in the protective environment for embryo implantation and foetal development.

Many couples who previously had no clear reason for their fertility issues or recurrent miscarriage have subsequently found that an immune imbalance might be a piece of the puzzle. This new field of research has given hope to many couples who might otherwise be considered as having ‘unexplained infertility’.

Key Facts
  • The immune system should adapt to tolerate an implanting embryo and growing foetus but in some cases, an immune imbalance or excess inflammation prevents development
  • The aggressive activity of NK cells are linked to increased risk of infertility, reduced rates of conception and increased risk for miscarriage
  • Advanced testing can also identify other cells of the immune system that are out of balance such as Th1/ Th2 balance, cells linked with autoimmune disease and inflammatory cytokines
  • Identifying the source of inflammation such as in the gut microbiome or the vaginal microbiome and treating underlying bacterial imbalances or infection is very helpful
  • An anti-inflammatory diet, supplement protocol and medicinal mushrooms can be very effective at restoring immune balance for a healthy pregnancy.
  • Supplement protocols are adapted to complement IVF treatment and medications as necessary

I’m really happy with the results of the tests after my consultations with Lynne - and my fertility consultant is also. I will continue with the programme that Lynne has prescribed to me. Please pass on my thanks to Lynne as I’ve no doubt the good results are due to her help.

Thank you so much for your time and expertise. There was a lot of complex information and test results but you were so knowledgeable, a real expert on the subject. We both feel we now understand more about what is going on for us. We have a plan and we are looking forward to moving forward on our fertility journey. We just wish we had found you earlier on, your service has been invaluable to us.

I don't usually leave reviews but this has quite frankly changed my life!  I was diagnosed with a very rare pregnancy immune condition with 70% - 100% chance of recurrence. I had spoken to specialists in Ireland, the UK & America, most had never heard of my immune pregnancy condition, let alone know how to treat it!   After tests to get to the root causes, and following your protocol, I'm more than happy and delighted to say that I now have a beautiful happy and healthy daughter of nearly 2yrs old, a testament to your hard work!

    Patient Story

    History

Martha attended our clinic after 2 failed embryo transfers using donor eggs. Prior to this she had a history of ‘unexplained infertility’ and had opted to try with donor eggs but this was still unsuccessful.

    Tests

To assess the environment for implantation, Martha carried out advanced immune testing and vaginal microbiome analysis.

High levels of inflammatory cytokines were detected on the advanced immune test.

Bacteria associated with Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) were detected on the vaginal microbiome test along with low levels of beneficial bacteria.

    Plan

A supplement protocol was designed to improve the environment of the vaginal microbiome including prebiotics, probiotics and anti-inflammatory supplements.  Martha received treatment from her GP for BV and she followed a maintenance plan from our clinic as BV has a high rate of reoccurrence.

    Repeat test

A repeat microbiome test showed that Martha’s BV bacteria had reduced significantly. A protocol was designed to maintain vaginal health into pregnancy.

    Outcome

Martha discussed her immune tests with her clinic and they amended her medication protocol. The next embryo transfer cycle was successful and Martha went on to have a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby girl.

“Our little miracle is here finally! It was a long road but finally she is here and we are absolutely thrilled!”
