Assessing Iodine Status in Front line Healthcare

  • Urine iodine testing is suitable for iodine determination in patients when coupled with dietary analysis
  • Iodine assessment is critical for thyroid health
  • Case report of patient with subclinical hypothyroidism with iodine deficiency. Iodine levels were safely and cautiously restored, and the patient’s thyroid function normalised

Eradication of Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) in Irritable Bowel Syndrome using herbal therapy; a case study

  • SIBO is underdiagnosed as a leading cause of IBS
  • The breath test is the gold standard in diagnosis
  • Case report of a patient positive for both methane and hydrogen SIBO, managed with a low FODMAP diet, treated with herbal antimicrobial. Negative breath test on repeat and successful resolution of IBS symptoms

Treatment of Long Covid with Enoxaparin

Key messages:

  • Long covid is a vascular disease and clotting, or microclotting, may play a role in many of the symptom
  • Treatment with nattokinase is common but did not work for this patient
  • Enoxaparin is an anti-coagulant which also has anti-viral and anti-inflammatory action
  • Treatment with enoxaparin greatly improved this patients function and quality of life

Lactate levels in Post-Exertional Malaise: observational study

Key messages:

  • Elevated lactate is a marker of dysfunctional metabolism
  • Patients with PEM (Long Covid, ME/CFS, vaccine injured) had elevated lactate levels at rest
  • Lactate levels increased after eating and after exertion
  • At-home testing may help to include more severe patients who cannot access healthcare and may be used to monitor interventions to improve metabolism
